Lindsey Claar Smith is passionate about authentic connection. She has the courage to be real about life’s challenges, and in doing so, spreads hope to others. Her messages are candid, heartfelt, and entertaining, whether delivered one-on-one or to an audience of hundreds, in person or virtually.
From years of experience counseling others and her own highs and lows, she understands that life can be complicated. She strives to journey alongside her audiences toward stronger communication and kinder relationships.
Lindsey learned early on to connect with people of all backgrounds. She grew up outside Chicago as the only daughter of two influential parents, which unwittingly landed her in the spotlight for most of her life. She had the honor of traveling with them around the country and the globe, meeting US Presidents and other powerful change-makers. At their side, she learned the art of diplomacy, as well as the importance of having a clear vision and making bold asks.
In her position of privilege, Lindsey recognized that the people with the greatest needs often have the least ability to advocate for themselves, so at only 21 years old, she helped found a nonprofit organization to support young people facing challenges. She appealed to the leaders she’d met growing up to assist, and together they raised over $100,000 at their first fundraiser. Heart Haven OutReach, affectionately known as “H2O,” is now over 20 years old and continues to offer free programs for youth, including support groups, character education, mentoring, tutoring, after school activities, and more. While serving as Executive Director, Lindsey was routinely humbled by the teens she sought to mentor. She discovered time and again that even the most “difficult” youth had a lot to say if only an adult would take the time to listen without judgment.
In 2009, Lindsey stepped away from her full time position at H2O to pursue her master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego. During her training, she counseled a wide variety of clients, from unsheltered people with schizophrenia to couples on the brink of divorce and countless others battling anxiety and depression. With each, she learned the power of being fully present as she walked them through and out of their darkness.
Shortly before graduating, she met her husband, Trevor, a San Diego native, and so went her plans for returning to Illinois. They now live in North County San Diego with their daughter and co-own Engel & Völkers Carlsbad, a real estate brokerage dedicated to providing premium client experiences. Lindsey serves as CEO and enjoys coaching their team of Real Estate Advisors and coordinating community service events.
When she’s not leading her company or captivating audiences, Lindsey unwinds by exploring the great outdoors with her family or catching up with friends over a caffeinated beverage.
